The Monday Five - Do Not Buy This $600 Ice Maker
What went live on the blog and a few things to know this week
Hey Indigoer,
Hope you had a nice long weekend and got to enjoy a little bit. Mine was fairly low key with a family BBQ and some pickle ball with friends. I’m in Atlanta for a few more days and going to be taking advantage of my pool while I’m here before heading back to NYC later this week.
Just going to give you a big heads up today for the upcoming week. Tomorrow starts two of the biggest sales of the year. July is always my Super Bowl. And this year, both major sales are happening simultaneously. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is July 8-11 for cardholders, and then open to everyone on the 12th through August 3rd. And the big Amazon Prime Day is July 8-11.
I’ll be sharing my top picks for both sales throughout the week here on Substack, my blog and Instagram. When you shop through my links, I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It’s a small way you can easily support your favorite creators. I often get asked HOW to make sure I get credit (this truly makes my day when you make the effort and ask this), and the rule is pretty much, the last click wins. So if you’re about to check out or start shopping, your click to get you to Nordstrom or Amazon, would need to be one from me for me to get the commission. No matter what you already added to cart or buy instead (doesn’t even have to be the item you clicked!). So thank you in advance for clicking and shopping. It means the world.
If you’re not shopping, just skip it. No hard feelings. I know there are mixed feelings about shopping on Amazon. I have cut back, and didn’t even renew my Prime membership this year. So I may be doing the $1.99 trial week to grab the things I want from the sale if I think it’s worth it. While I don’t plan to do much shopping, there are lots of things I own that will be on sale, so I’ll share those links with you tomorrow. Also, I’d suggest browsing the handmade section. This is sort of like their version of Etsy of handmade items from small businesses.
PS today is the last day to be entered into my giveaway for paid subscribers. Win a pair of Marc Fisher shoes and a box of beauty goodies. Must be a paid subscriber and live in the US, so upgrade today to be automatically entered. I will also be doing a bonus entry if you leave a comment on today’s post.
Here’s Your Monday Five…
Mini Obsessed
While in Atlanta this week, I brought in a midi slip dress to get altered into a mini. I don’t know why I haven’t done this sooner, but I’m excited to pick it up from the tailor this week. I love a mini dress, mini skirt, you name it. I’m on the hunt for a few more minis for summer and I’m eyeing this cute palm print one, and this yellow one is really fun too. Also very into mini skirts—this mini is great and love this weirdish skirt from a brand I’ve never heard of. Must investigate now.
New Lazy Bras
I am a Skims Fits Everybody Bra stan. I bought a handful in 2020 and have been living in them ever since. Which means, they’ve seen better days. I’ve been testing out new lazy bras lately and may need to do a formal guide on the findings. But so far, I’ve recently tried this Relief bra from EBY, and it’s pretty comfortable, may remove the pads though. Wearing this one from Negative as I type it and LOVE it, it’s a solid front runner. And this one from Barely Zero is very light, maybe too light, I guess it lives up to its name. If that’s your thing, you may like it. I still think my Skims Everybody Bra may be the BEST, but these are definitely runner-ups. PS looks like the Skims Everybody collection is on sale, shop it here →
No Need For A Pebble Ice Maker
It seems the pebble ice maker is always the hot ticket item for Prime Day (happening tomorrow), but I am here to tell you that this $600 device, and lord knows what your power bill looks like, too, isn’t really worth it in my opinion. I suppose if I had endless space and money, I’d be into it. But these little pebble ice cube trays have been satisfying my tiny cube needs. The scooper that comes with it is more like a spatula and absolutely useless. I bought this set of scoopers to use one for it, and the rest are going into my flour and sugar containers. These ice cubes really make my ice matchas at home feel like I’m at a cute coffee shop.
Did This DIY Over The Weekend
A good friend of mine is having a baby soon and she asked me to help get the nursery ready. She wanted to do the brushstroke paint wall that I did in my office. It’s such an old DIY project I did and a favorite. I’ll be making a video of it but you can see how I did it in my Atlanta condo here. It’s so easy and a fun DIY project. While there’s no real method here, there’s a few tips I share here like testing out your paint, strokes and adjusting your brush as needed. See the step by step tutorial here →
New Beauty Products I’m Trying
It’s always nice to get new beauty things to try from brands I love. I recently got this exfoliator sent by Dr Brandt, I find myself using this type of product a lot more in the sweaty summer months. And always love a Vitamin C serum so I’m trying this one from Dermalogica. I love a vitamin C serum especially in the summer as it acts as a backup SPF almost protecting your skin from the sun (SPF is still needed, but this is a good thing to put underneaht as extra protection with its antioxidants). I also don’t think I’ve ever tried Elemis so I’m giving this kit a try with their best sellers. I’ve heard really good things about their products, especially the cleansing balm.
