Your Millennial Style Questions
QUESTION: The dresses this season are a struggle! Any winter wedding guest ideas? I still love your green velvet dress you wore like five years ago but the velvet ones this season look cheap.
ANSWER: Velvet can easily look a little cheap when it’s too thin or isn’t laying right on your body. Whenever you’re shopping for a wedding guest dress for winter, I like to keep a few things in mind. Look for a winter color like jewel tones, rich browns, deep reds or classic black. And you can also look for winter florals or leopard. Lastly, keep fabric in mind. Look for velvet, chiffon, silks, jacquard and the like. Avoid cotton when attending weddings, and leave the spaghetti strap pieces in the closet if it’s going to be super cold.
A few details I love in a winter wedding guest is sheer lace or organza, it adds some softness to the heavier fabrics. Try a long sleeve too. And if you have a great little black dress, you can easily make it more winter wedding friendly by adding a black sheer tight, suede shoes and jewel tone accessories.
These are a few of my personal favorite dresses to shop right now for a winter wedding. You’ll see there’s lots of great little black dresses but also great winter florals and texture. If you do want to do a spaghetti strap dress (which isn’t a hard no for winter) try one of these great jackets to wear over your dress to stay warm.
