An Indigo Week + a heavy heart
Wrapping my head around the reality we are now living in, and it isn't easy.
This week’s recap looks a little different…While I have a couple of posts on the blog, who the hell cares at this point? Wanted to share how I’m feeling at the moment before getting back to regularly scheduled content.
I’m not mad that I had hope and optimism. But I am definitely sad at the outcome of the election. I am struggling to wrap my head around a highly qualified, joyful, smart woman with policies that would’ve helped the majority of Americans, was unable to defeat a hateful, failed businessman and 34-count felon who showed us his true colors these last few years. Character matters, words matter, and I am concerned that we have lost the plot this time.
I’m also extremely sad we won’t experience a Kamala Harris presidency. The joy and normalcy of a new generation in office would’ve been so exciting. It could have inspired a generation of young women. But instead, this week feels as though we are in mourning. And the growing fear, if even a sliver of what has been promised and pitched to the American people may come to fruition, is heavy.
I don’t have a lot of optimism at the moment. Sure, I hope we are all sounding the alarm for nothing. I really do. I want this country to be prosperous and welcoming for all, which is the promise of America I think most of us want. However, I can’t help but feel like there may be a big “we told you so” happening in a few years since there are now fewer guardrails in place and presidential immunity is now the law of the land. An “I told you so” may be at the expense of even more women dying due to lack of essential healthcare, and more attacks on immigrants and our LGBTQ friends among other things. I hope I am wrong in every way, I truly do.
What’s next? I will continue to stay involved in civic duty for the greater good of everyone. And I hope you will too. A reminder that your civic duty does not include watching the news. It means getting involved in your community, volunteering, running for your school board or local office or simply signing up for a cause you care about. I know I need to figure out what that looks like for me as I am feeling a little lost at the moment.
Please take care of yourself this week. Step away from social media, the news, and practice some self-care right now. We will then roll up our sleeves and continue to do the work. The fight for decency and equality for everyone is not over. And complacency is how we lose everything.
