I’ve always wanted to share a day in the life. While this blog post does exist and it’s still pretty accurate, I thought it would be fun to be more granular and take you along on a more fun day in my life, minute by minute.
7:05 - A slightly early wake-up call for me (I like to wake up around 7:30, no alarm set though just my internal clock) and immediately brush my teeth and make my bed. I can’t leave my bedroom without making the bed or my life feels like a mess.
7:15 - Straight to the computer. I get right to my inbox to clear out the unnecessary emails, respond to what I need to and then move to today’s blog post. I create graphics for the new post for social, update a few things and hit publish. I do the same with my Substack post that also went live on my 30-day style challenge.
I’m still figuring out a posting cadence that makes sense with Substack and the blog. I’ve been neglecting the blog, which I’m feeling with ad revenue and traffic loss, but I also don’t want to inundate followers with content with new posts on BOTH. Substack has me questioning a lot!
7:45 - I make an iced coffee and reluctantly unloaded the dishwasher. Not an activity I enjoy doing. Back to the computer and I turn the Today Show on. This is on every day until 11am in my house.
I finished updating this blog post and made social shares for it that are now scheduled and ready to go.
7:48 - I’m now crying because I saw a friend post on IG about their Boston, who is struggling with cancer. The sadness of losing a pet, especially your soul dog, never leaves you. It comes and goes and when it comes, man, it can be brutal all over again. I sometimes feel like I didn’t appreciate Pork enough. I know she was my side kick and my number one love, but I fear I’m forgetting things already and it makes me really sad. Was not planning on getting emotional today, but here we are.
7:51 - I’m back in business. Posted my new posts to social and Pinterest. Now I’m working on my NYC Guide and the sales pages that go with it. Plus, all the things on the backend that need to be done for it to go live. This is a fun project though and I love doing this type of stuff.
8:48 - Hunger hit. I’m trying to get back into Trim Bootcamp and intermittent fasting, but here we are. This is something that takes a few days to get back into. And some days I do this naturally without trying, so just listening to my body today!
I make a cottage and fig jam toast with black pepper and a drizzle of honey, my favorite.
9:15 - Texting with my blogging bestie about a contract I haven’t received yet and starting to panic about an upcoming trip. She is trying to make me feel better, and it’s not entirely working, but I appreciate the effort. Then we both decide that we need to be millionaires so we can fly first class everywhere. The conversation has a range I suppose.
9:42 - I finished a blog post reviewing Alohas shoes. I’ve been meaning to write this one for a while, so it felt good to finish it up and it is now ready to go. Just needs a featured image, which I am waiting for my edited files from my photographer. Should get those today.
9:55 - It’s time to get dressed to go to the gym. I have a 12pm group call with The Blog Societies, so I want to get this done or it’ll never happen. Making it a quick workout because I’m going for a long walk with a friend later. 25 minutes of lifting and I’m good to go.
10:06 - Walking to the gym and listening to the Meghan Sussex episode of the Jamie Kern Lima show. It’s a glorious day out too, this weather gives me life!
10:13 - I arrive at the gym to get in a quick leg workout.
10:40 - I wrap things up and walk back home. Now debating if I do my hair before my 12pm meeting or after my walk before dinner.
10:53 - I’m back home and on the computer to check a couple of things before jumping in the shower. I decided I’m washing my hair before the meeting, and praying I don’t get super sweaty on my walk. But it looks like today is a 2 shower day. We have arrived at hot as hell NYC.
11:34 - Finished blow-drying my hair and now made a yogurt bowl bc I’m starving. Also texted my friend Katelyn to confirm we’re still on for dinner tonight. We’re trying a new restaurant I was invited to and it’s always really fun to get to do this.
11:54 - I log onto the Zoom waiting for people to arrive. Why is it always so nerve-wracking wondering if people will join your Zoom call?? Luckily, a few people joined and we get started.
12:44 - Got off our call, it was a success. Only a few people joined but it’s nice to get some quality time with members and other content creators and chat.
1:18 - I open up my Sezane package and tried on the couple of things I ordered. My order is a bit of a bust. This leopard dress was a maybe but just wasn’t fitting great. I then sat on the couch to scroll and reply to DMs and scroll for my own enjoyment while I wait for the plumber to arrive.
2:01 - Plumber came and now I’m off to meet a friend for a walk to the Whitney to get these really cute art prints. I put on my lululemon dress and my Baggallini belt bag, I love the size of this one, it even held a small bottle of water which was convenient.
2:30 - I arrive at my friend’s apartment building and wait for her downstairs. Then we head out on our walk and catch up.
3:30 - We arrive at The Whitney and play our luck with the art print machine. We both had our bag of quarters and got a few really cute prints. It was totally worth the walk.
3:52 - We then walk to Pier 57, which I have never been to. I’ve walked past it a bunch, but never went inside, let alone the stunning rooftop with incredible views. Highly recommend checking this out if you find yourself in Chelsea.
4:55 - While walking back, I grab some frozen yogurt, triple berry pie, from Culture. It’s so good, but I regret not listening to my friend who said to just buy the pint that was less than my tiny serving. Culture is a favorite, but man, is it expensive. My friend heads back to her place, and I finish my 27-minute walk back to my apartment.
5:05 - I call my mom to check in for the day and see what’s new. Yes, I call my mom every day, it’s required in our family that everyone checks in with her. I had a long walk home so it was a good time to catch up.
5:10 - Figured I still had more time left on my walk so I call my sister to see what she’s up to. While her and I don’t talk every day on the phone, we do text every day. It’s nice to catch up on the phone though. Reminder to do that more.
5:20 - I get home and someone stops me as I walk into our building to tell me that the elevators aren’t working. Great, I just walked 3.5 hours (how did that happen??) did a leg workout this morning and now I have to walk up 8 flights of stairs? Ugh. I did it, I survived. And I also thought to myself, I should do this more often, at least on the days I walk back from the gym.
5:40 - I hop into the shower, that’s shower #2 of the day if you’re keeping track, and get dressed, put on makeup and get ready for dinner. While doing my hair, I FaceTime my friend Cathy and her dog Bowie to see what they’re up to today.
6:34 - I head out the door, take an outfit pic and decided, I think I hate my outfit. I wore this exact outfit 2 years ago while on my month-long stay and loved it. I am starting to question all of my clothes lately and I don’t know what’s happening. Maybe it’s living in NYC and seeing so many different styles, or just evolving with my own. But I think I hate the midi dress with the blazer, but I have no time to change.
7:03 - We arrive at the restaurant and enjoy dinner at Kubeh. We ordered the halloumi which was insanely good. It was soaked in honey and was so delicious. I ordered the salmon, which was fantastic, and Katelyn got the beef soup which was really delicious and so different than anything I’ve ever had. This is a media dinner where the restaurant invites me in to try it out. There’s no strings attached, I can post if I enjoy it, but I don’t have to if I don’t like it. I’ve lucked out with almost every spot so far and it’s been fun to try new spots I probably would not have thought to check out in the city.
9:28 - I walk home bc I am insane, but these heels are super comfy and it’s a beautiful night. I’ll now have walked over 4 hours today. This wasn’t really in today’s plan and it definitely cut into some time on my computer, but I still feel like I got a lot done in the time I did have at my desktop.
Lately, I’ve been not wearing my AirPods while walking and it’s kinda nice taking in the sounds of NYC and hearing my own thoughts, even if I am humming Moonbeam Ice Cream to myself (Benson Boone’s new song, Mystical Magical is always stuck in my head).
9:48 - I walk in the door and am thankful the elevators are working again. I wash my face, put on pjs and then sit on the couch and do my Duolingo. I’m on a 970 day streak, so yes, I am doing it even if it’s only for 30 seconds. Also, I don’t know about you, but I always have to sit on the couch before going to bed. I can never just go from coming in from being out, to the bed. I need a little downtime on my couch ,even if it’s for just 20 minutes. I scroll TikTok and giggle while having The Nanny on in the background. A typical decompress mode I’m often in.
10:47 - I successfully couch rotted for an hour which was probably too long, but that’s a habit we can deal with tomorrow, maybe. I then head to bed to put on The Nanny to fall asleep to. Before I go to bed I have a ritual of taking my allergy meds, swiping on my OSEA lip serum and now I’ve added in the Soft Services retinol hand cream, it smells so good. I turn the TV off after a few minutes because I am not making it much longer before falling asleep and I put my eyemask on and it’s lights out.
And that’s it! A look at a day in my life that wasn’t just sitting at my desk all day. Which is honestly how most days are with the occasional workout and grocery store run.
thanks for sharing this! so interesting and detailed; way more detailed than most go into so it's appreciated, I'm nosy! ;).
I couldn't help but notice - you didn't eat very much at all, especially being so active! Just a small piece of toast + cottage, a small yogurt bowl without much else, and some frozen yogurt to get you all the way until dinner? is that enough for you, and is that typical? I eat way more than you but am still a healthy weight - just something to consider! You might not be eating enough to support your metabolic needs. Or maybe you are, and you can tell me to mind my own business :)
I love this so much. Very fun to see a day in the life of others. Love how honest you are. Kudos for all the walking you did, lots of exercise. I also am shocked that you have the today show on for so many hours lol. I like your idea of Mondays where you reset for the week with groceries and kitchen prep and tidying the apartment, etc. Hope you will do another one in the near future.
