I’ve been a content creator, blogger, and influencer (all of the above) for over 15 years. What started as a way to write on my little blog, to hopefully get into journalism, turned into something very different. Very quickly, it became a destination for my outfit photos, and a few years in, a full-blown career. While 15 years ago there was no playbook for being an influencer, today there’s an entire industry on helping people become or learn about the industry itself.

I’m kicking off my “Nobody Told Me This” series to share a bit of the behind-the-scenes of being a content creator. And really, anyone who is self-employed could probably relate and learn a thing or two in what we’ll cover. I’ll dive into how we get paid, the struggles of chasing down invoices, and how to build wealth without a 401K employer match, and the cost of doing business, both financially and emotionally. Let’s dive into our first topic, how you actually get paid.

How Do Content Creators and Influencers Get Paid

There are a few main revenue streams most creators earn from. Each creator is different, though, so some may see more revenue from one area, and not much in another. I’m a traditional blogger who still publishes posts on my blog, generates ad revenue, and also shares across Instagram, TikTok, and Substack. So the following revenue streams are pretty standard for me and I would say, the majority of creators.

Affiliate

Affiliate revenue is a huge portion of my business. I generate revenue from this channel across all my platforms. I share a link to a product I recommend, and I earn a small commission for it. I mostly use ShopMy and LikeToKnow.it for handling this. Commission ranges from .5% to 30%, but usually multi-brand retailers pay out less, while direct brands will pay out more.

If you’re a creator looking to monetize through affiliate, I would highly encourage you to check out ShopMy. I’ve been doing this for 15 years, and they are the ones to be a part of at the moment.

Brand Deals

Getting a brand deal can be super lucrative. A brand will pay you a flat fee to create content for them. This is usually an agreed-upon fee, with deliverables. There’s a lot of back and forth, contracts to review and so on. These are usually more work, but the payout is typically worth it. These payouts can be in the thousands, even tens of thousands, depending on your audience size and length of contract.

UGC Content

A more up-and-coming revenue stream has been UGC content. I have a bone to pick with this one, though. It pays much less than brand deals typically, yet the brand gets to run your content, which they hire you to make as an ad, generating revenue for the brand. This content is not published to your own feed, but instead, provided to the brand to then run as their own ads coming from their channel. Sometimes, whitelisting, where they run the ad on the creator’s account, so it looks like we authentically made content. At the end of the day, it’s an ad. This doesn’t pay nearly what I think it deserves. Ads should be paid at a premium for licensing your content.

Ad Revenue

When you visit my blog, you’ll notice the ads throughout. And while yes, they can be annoying, it’s a way to generate revenue for all that free content. The more traffic you typically have, the better the ad revenue can be. I discuss the changes in this over the years in my 15-year anniversary post here on how I saw a 75% drop in traffic, and yes, revenue.

Substack Subscriptions

This is a new revenue stream for me, Substack subscriptions. But some creators are relying on subscriptions alone for income. It can be very lucrative if you have a dedicated audience and provide quality content people are willing to pay for. For me, this is mostly building on my existing affiliate revenue stream. Paid subscriptions are something I’m working on growing but it’s nowhere near replacing any revenue stream for me, yet.

Things they don’t tell you about making money…

Payment Timelines Can Be Stressful

While you may get paid bi-weekly like clockwork, we are more than likely chasing down money or waiting months to be paid for affiliate sales. That product a follower bought 3 months ago is just now getting paid out to me after the window has closed for returns and adjustments.

My 30-day invoice from a major brand is most definitely not getting paid on time. And oftentimes, we’re seeing net 60 and sometimes net 90. Which is blasphemy if you ask me. We are constantly chasing down money we deserve, which, honestly, costs us money with how much time we spend on it.

Your Best Month, Isn’t Your Take-Home

Since we are freelancers, no one is taking out taxes or FICA from our checks from brands. So while it’s nice to get paid your full amount, you do need to put 20-30% of that away for taxes. Because trust me, the first time you have a fully self-employed year, you’ll be shocked by what you owe. We’ll dive into the financials in another edition of this series. But just know, your big month means you don’t get to keep all of it. And it’s in your best interest to put a little aside for a rainy day.

I think people are always surprised to hear that we’re chasing payments down, and can sometimes be waiting 60 or 90 days. Or that commission earned on a $100 sale on a retailer's website only earns us pennies sometimes. What a weekend in NYC. I watched the Knicks winning game at an Upper West Side bar with some friends. We sat outside while watching the TV along with dozens of other people from the neighborhood. It was such a fun way to spend the night and the sense of community was palpable. The cheers at the final buzzer were everything. The city felt so alive—I’ve never been happier to not be in bed by 11 for once.

This weekend was also spent at The Met, celebrating a friend at her baby shower, and a Washington Square park hang with a friend over english muffin breakfast sandwiches. Not to be all in my feelings, but this past weekend made me feel lke a New Yorker more than ever.

The Brand On My Radar Lately

This is not a new brand by any means, but between my black Madewell midi dress (a dupe of this brand), and browsing their swim for this swim video, I can’t seem to get STAUD off my mind. Definitely a bit of a pricier brand, but still not outrageous. Plus, it’s great quality. Here’s what I’d buy….

I’m Giving Up On Yesteryear

I’ve tried listening to Yesteryear after everyone raved about it, but I just can not get through it. It may be because it’s on audio, which I struggle more with. However, I am plowing through Jennette McCurdy’s second book. It’s been a really fascinating and wild listen.

Jaw Was On The Floor Watching This

I think I was too young to really know what was going on with Michael Jackson in the 90s with his trial. But I just finished watching the newest documentary on the case and the information had my jaw on the floor. I truly think if this was tried today, between #METOO and the Epstein files, no one would’ve put up with it and he would have been convicted. The evidence seemed damning from what I was learning. It’s 3 episodes, and worth a watch.

I also watched Maternal Instinct over the weekend and it is such a tragic story. The whole thing just sort of blew my mind. Like what do you mean the “father” never really questioned that he never saw her bare stomach to confirm she was pregnant?! I just cannot fathom the ignorance.

What I’m Doing With 50 Eggs

Last week, my grocery delivery guy was left with an unclaimed bag and asked if I wanted it as his final stop on the route. It had two 18 packs of eggs, two things of blueberries and a pint of raspberries. I already had 16 eggs in my fridge…which meant, yes I had over 50 eggs in my fridge. Good news is, I eat eggs every single morning for breakfast in some shape or form. But 50 eggs is a lot to get through, here’s what I’m making.

• I decided to bake a a blueberry pound cake and it may be one of the best things I ever baked.

• I made a batch of these soy-marinated eggs that came out insanely delicious. I’ve been eating them over white rice with chili crunch.

• This week I’m making classic egg salad for lunches.

To Combat Oil And Breakouts

This is the time of year my skin gets even oilier. That t-zone becomes a BOLD T-ZONE. To reduce congested pores, any chest breakouts or unwanted zits, these are the products I swear by.

My cleansing routine is always as follows: cleanse, maybe double cleanse, exfoliate with a toner, serum, moisturize with SPF (or non-SPF at night). The ingredient I look for this time of year is BHA (salicylic acid) — a chemical exfoliant that's oil-soluble, meaning it can actually get into pores to break down excess oil and debris.

• While I still use my Fresh face cleanser often, I will rotate in more exfoliating face washes like the Cosmedix Purifying Cleanser to really remove that oil.

• I really like using Elemis exfoliating pads with lactic acid.

• A great exfoliating toner option is also the Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Exfoliating Toner

• Honestly, multiple showers a day do help prevent some breakouts. All that sweat, and SPF on my body requires a second shower before bed. I am currently using Salt & Stone’s body wash in the Saffron + Cedar scent, it’s a long-time favorite.

• The Tower28 SOS spray is a nice-to-have. I really only use this after a workout or long walk when I’m not ready to shower yet. It keeps your skin from breaking out and is great to keep in your gym bag as a holdover until you can wash your face.

• For serums and anti-aging creams, I pretty much keep these the same year round, or reach for more Vitamin C and currently trying this one from Biossance that’s on sale.

To Protect From The Sun

I will always be an SPF girlie. And you should be too. Daily face SPF 365 days a year.

I’ve already begun spraying my arms and legs if I know I’m heading out for a few hours. I am anti-mineral sunscreen. It smells sour to me and I don’t know how anyone else doesn’t smell it.

• I start every morning with a daily moisturizer with SPF. Right now, the UltraViolette one is on rotation (and doubles as a primer), but I also love this drugstore option.

• For a daily spray sunscreen for when I know I’ll be sitting outside or doing a ton of walking, I use the ISDIN I picked up in a French pharmacy. They don’t sell it in the US because they contain European UV filters that haven’t been approved by the FDA for use in American sunscreens. The FDA is wildly behind on this. I digress. This is my backup once it’s empty.

• And during the summer months, this SPF powder lives in my bag for easy reapplication over makeup and a quick swipe across your shoulders and hair part

To Make My Skin Look Good

If my arms, shoulders or chest are out, I am oiling up. It makes your skin look glowy and dewy. And it’s also officially the season of making sure your feet look 10/10.

• Depending on where I’m headed, I’ll either use the Vacation SPF Shimmer Oil since it has some shimmer in it. It also has SPF 30 so I can feel good about being out in the sun a bit.

• Or I’ll use this Uni body oil, I just love their products. This not only hydrates, but helps to firm the skin too.

• At night, I try to remember my AmLactin cream for soft heels all summer long. A drugstore essential that actually works.

• And in the shower, I use the Soft Services buffing bar on my heels to make sure they’re staying soft. This product is great for Keratosis Pilaris too.

To Keep My Makeup On

I am super oily, so a primer is a must. I rely on a few products to make sure my makeup stays put.

• My holy grail primer from Fenty Beauty

• The Laura Mercier finishing powder is in recent rotation (also love this HAUS LABS one)

• And to make sure nothing moves, finish it all off with the Urban Decay setting spray. I’ve heard this ONE/SIZE Patrick Starrr one is supposed to be great, too

For My Hair

The humidity and I do not mix. I started using the WOW Dream Coat and am really loving it so far. You do have to blow dry this into your hair with tension, supposedly, for it to really work. And it lasts after a few washes so you can use this before a trip and not worry about packing it.

This time of year my bag is never without a good hair clip. I love my Machete ones. They’re fun, colorful and actually hold my hair.

Random Household Purchases & Restocks

I’ve officially been living in NYC for 2.5 years, and some things officially need replacing. Plus, a few random necessary buys for the apartment lately.

• Saving my sink drain. I don’t have a garbage disposal in NYC so having these drain catchers are essential. I officially think I need a new one after two years.

• New kitchen towels. I went with these bar mop ones for when I’m working in the kitchen, and grabbed these as decorative hand towels. So many people recommended Geometry towels but at $18 and not 100% cotton, no thanks.

• Luxurious hand wash. Just finished this incredible exfoliating hand soap that I have in my bathroom. Swapping it out and trying the evolve together one that I’ve seen all over Instagram.

• Wardrobe tools. Finally have a fabric shaver. This brought new life to my workout leggings that were starting to pill. Also great for upholstered furniture and sweaters. And if you don’t own a seam ripper, buy this set now and gift the others to friends. I have used this three times in the last week alone.

Fashion Finds For Summer

A few recent summer finds and favorites to consider.

• Left on Friday just launched a collab with Clare V, who is known for having fun with colors. The collection is funky but not over the top. Loving this suit and this baseball cap. They make GREAT swim, highly recommend. Shop the collection →

• These Dolce Vita sandals are officially the sandal of the season for me. I keep reaching for them because they’re not only comfortable, but feel a bit more elevated than just a flip flop wtih the wedge detail.

• Finally wore my new Bermuda shorts that I rebought to get the better price (yup, I do that), they came out to only $55!! I would size down if in between. I styled them with a fun top and a low sandal. I’m very into them! Shop the whole look here →

My Bedroom Purchases // we’re making progress

I’m thrilled to have finally placed a big order for some bedroom updates. I went with this headboard in garnet velvet (linking similar options here). I’m also doing a burlwood nightstand and trying these out. Also snagged this cutie lamp because right now the curtains are hitting my sconce so this will free up the wall. And will do this fun sconce on the other side that I can’t WAIT to install today. Sharing some updates too on TikTok →

A Summer Recipe On Repeat

I always love to make Greek chicken bowls with the Trader Joe’s chicken shwarma. It’s so flavorful and full of warm spices. But for a change of pace, I tried a simple Greek chicken recipe last week and it came out so good that I am whipping it up again tonight to have for the week. Here’s what I put in the marinade—I just eyeballed it.

• Greek yogurt

• Zest and juice of a lemon

• Fresh dill - can also use rosemary or thyme here

• Garlic clove, grated and garlic powder

• Drizzle of olive oil

• Dried oregano

• Salt & Pepper

Marinate for a few hours if you can, then bake it off. I serve it with white rice, a Greek salad and my homemade tzatziki. Such a light and easy dinner. Chicken is also great the next day in a salad served cold.

What I’m Reading & Watching

I’ve been listening to Yesteryear which I’m not yet fully into but everyone is talking about it. I feel like I gotta speed it up with Yesteryear—maybe this is the week I finish it. And also Half His Age, Jeanette McCurdy’s second book. I really liked her first one, I’m Glad My Mom Died.

As for TV, the Hannah Berner standup, None Of My Business, was a funny watch that had me giggling. I didn’t realize she had a special in 2024, may need to watch that this week.

Oh and Taylor Swift’s new song, I Knew It, I Knew You, is on repeat. I thought I wouldn’t like a country song for a kid’s movie, but here we are. It’s stuck in my head constantly. Don’t know how she does it.

There are so many wonderful styles to choose from that still feel interesting, but don’t give Hill House smocking that’s adorned with ruffles. Listen, this isn’t a dig at Hill House, because I’d 100% wear this dress. But I know many of us are not into the ruffle, tiered, smocking and bow combination that is often paired with a milkmaid inspired floral print. And that’s what today’s post is all about.

The Criteria

Here’s what criteria I looked for when curating today’s list.

• No ruffles or bows

• No smocking (fine if it’s on the back for fit purposes)

• No traditional floral prints

• No tiers of fabric or puff sleeves

• 100% cotton or linen

Since it’s summer, we’re only reaching for natural fibers that breathe. Everything in this list is 100% cotton or linen. There may be one or two that have 2-10% elastene in them, but I accept that if the rest is cotton, as it’s there to help hold the shape of the garment.

Say hello to your favorite summer linen and cotton dresses. And don’t forget a pair of these shorts for underneath to avoid that dreaded thigh chafing.

I live for a good mini dress in the summer. I love the Reformation minis like the Audree dress (which I own in several colors, I wear a medium). DISSH is also a great destination for natural fibers and beautiful pieces. The baby blue U-neck dress from DISSH is a popular silhouette that is perfect for hot days. At just under $200, some may feel it’s a bit pricy. This is a great inspired version at Amazon that is 100% cotton. I own it and it’s a decent alternative to get a similar look. The only thing that really feels different is that the neckline isn’t as low, which I think makes it look more elevated, but for $35, it works! Denim dresses are also usually 100% cotton, so don’t overlook this category which is a personal favorite of mine.

SHOP MINI DRESSES

Midis and maxis are always a great piece to reach for and ideal for summer events. Whether it’s a bridal or baby shower, or a nicer dinner, they are so easy to dress up with a heel and nicer bag. Cala de la Cruz and Farm Rio make really fun and special pieces. But if you want something more classic, try the red Staud dress (a little belt or bandana would make this feel even more elevated) or this matching Reformation set which can be worn together, or pulled apart for even more looks—ideal for vacation.

Wearing summer dresses also requires the right undergarments. I always keep a few pairs of Thigh Society shorts and these Spanx on hand for a smidge of smoothing and coverage to avoid thigh chafing and coverage for minis. I like these Cakes as nipple covers, and if you need more support, you can try boob tape or a backless bra like this. Having these undergarments ready to go means you’ll actually wear the items in your closet.

Goodbye skin tight, and ripped, white jeans. Instead, try a relaxed straight fit for an instant refresh. You could style a wide leg cropped (my personal favorite), or a full length with a flip flop for a more on-trend feel. Shop my favorite denim and pants for summer →

Leave the too tight linen or chino pants in the past, and reach for a relaxed linen trouser for the office or date night. You can even do a cropped length with a slim fit. But avoid the too-tight look that instantly feels dated. More linen pant outfit ideas for summer →

In the words of Taylor Swift, we are never getting back together (low-rise anything). Or super short shorts, either, for that much. Try a slightly higher rise from mid to high depending on your height, and a longer inseam. Also, let’s try different shorts other than denim. Track shorts are great, a trouser style short feels really polished, and pull on poplin ones are effortless and lightweight for hot days. The best summer shorts to shop right now →

I truly believe a bag can make or break an outfit. And it’s such an easy swap. The Cult Gaia bag has got to go, I’m sorry. I say keep it stored for maybe a nice event, but we’re reaching for straw bags, woven bags, and even mesh ones, for summer. These are some of my favorite summer bags to shop right now →

We could do a deep dive on accessories in general, but a really low lift, big impact move is just to swap your sunglasses. Forget the blue mirror aviators (RIP) and reach for something more cat-like, or oval if you want to be super on trend. There are sunglasses I’ve owned for years that still work, looking at you Karen Walkers. Not all 2014 sunglasses should be tossed. Just the overly trendy ones could probably use a refresh. The way I lived in a bold floral jogger in 2016 still blows my mind. Let’s swap the old pull on pants that are most definitely not in a breathable fabric for summer, for something a little cooler and more relaxed. A barrel leg pull on is fun, but if that feels too trendy for you, just try a relaxed straight leg or track kpant. A slight crop is super flattering, and allows you to wear a ton of shoe options with it. All your simple sandals, summery heels and even a low profile fashion sneaker will work. Wrapping up today’s newsletter on a Sunday afternoon before settling into the couch for the remainder of the day. I spent the morning getting manis with my friend’s 5 year old (actually, 4 and 3/4, duh). I let her choose my polish color and well, it’s not my usual red. We went with a neon hot pink! I honestly kind of like it!

I finished listening to Love Trapped, the story of a former Bachelor contestant who experiences a paternity nightmare with a serial liar. And then I had to watch Worst Ex Ever, the episode with the Deadpool killer. Apparently, there’s a solo documentary I now need to also binge called Handsome Devil: Charming Killer. It’s Really Live // personal styling

I can’t believe I’m officially offering virtual and in-person styling services. I have been asked to do this for as long as I can remember. After helping a friend do a proper styling session for an upcoming trip a few weeks ago, it just felt right to try this out.

I’ve been running my style blog for 15 years, and I am itching for a new challenge. I think it’s a combination of the NYC hustle culture and maybe me turning 40 soon, that I’m ready for something fun and different. I’m excited for a new challenge and to see where this takes me.

My NYC Summer Wish List // Will I actually get it done?

Every summer, I make a list of things I want to do in NYC. And each year, I slowly check things off. There’s still plenty left, so here’s my top priority, summer bucket list.

• Coney Island - must get a hot dog and play some games

• Rockaway Beach - thinking about doing this solo one day as a little adventure during the week to avoid crowds

I Fired My Havenly Designer….and it was 100% worth it

Things were not going great with my Havenly designer. And I think part of the problem was just our vibe was off and not syncing, but also, I was forcing the furniture—specifically the bed. I swapped to a new designer and had a great video call with her. We walked through all my inspiration photos and needs for the room, and we just clicked.

I was really eager to see what she would come up with—and she truly nailed it. The bed, shifting from a black industrial metal frame, to a soft warm upholstered bed with a bit of a whimsical shape to it, was exactly what this room needed. Side note, the curtains appear much darker than what’s already in the space, and I think it’ll all look great together with what I currently have. I’m debating if I want to tackle painting the ceiling. The room feels so big and tall (shocking for NYC), so I think it can handle the darker ceiling. But I am dreading it. I don’t mind painting a wall, but a ceiling? Totally different ballgame.

I’m no stranger to personal styling. In college, I worked at Nordstrom and styled customers constantly. They came in needing a look for the weekend or an event, and I helped them put an outfit together. I worked in t.b.d., the IT department for finding a great going-out outfit or pieces for a vacation.

And for 15 years, I have been the person behind a personal style blog where I mainly focus on sharing styling tips. How to style trends, ways to get the most out of your closet, and help answer your Millennial style questions on how to feel more up to date and confident in your clothes. It’s been my career for a decade and a half.

I’ve been on the receiving end of thousands of texts over the years from “is this cute” or “why does this look weird,”? I’ve helped talk friends through styling looks for their own vacations, or styling their newest find with their closet, and just helping them approve or deny a purchase. I have always been that friend for as long as I can remember.

One thing I have always prided myself on as a style influencer is not doing hauls. I still wear many years-old pieces in my closet. I believe in quality clothing, with a few fun, less expensive pieces here and there (I’m not made of money after all), and creating great uniforms you can rely on when you stand in front of your closet saying “I have nothing to wear”. I truly believe it comes down to styling and accessorizing, not necessarily about buying all new things.

So here’s what happened…

In mid-April, I got a text from one of my new NYC friends. She was heading out on a 19 day trip to the Amalfi Coast and the South of France in June. She asked me if I would come over to help her put looks together sometime in the coming weeks.

Can I be honest? I didn’t want to.

I thought I wouldn’t enjoy this. I thought this wasn’t my lane. I preferred the idea of her sending me an outfit selfie and asking, “which shoe should go with this?” I’d answer from the comfort of my couch and call it a day. I was vague in my response. I was willing to help, but I wasn’t ready to commit.

Then I had a follower run in that shifted my perspective…

At the end of April, I ran into a follower of mine while on the subway. A highlight of my day, honestly. It feels so nice getting to meet real people from behind the screen. She was so sweet, too.

And one of the first things she asked me was, “Would you ever go into people’s closets and help them style looks?” She and her friends wanted this type of service and thought I’d be perfect for it. I told her swiftly, no way. It’s not for me. She was so adamant about how nice it would be to have someone come over and help them put outfits together with what they already have. Just fresh eyes, some tips, and add my own personal style touch to their existing closet from someone they already trusted, thanks to parasocial relationships.

Sometimes, fresh eyes are all you really need. I know I do this in my own closet. It takes pulling things out and just having some fun putting looks together and not really overthinking it to see things that wouldn’t naturally go together, or what you’ve never thought to pair with. And I know my followers are interested because my DMs are always full of people asking how to style something or pleading for help before an event.

The conversation stuck with me the rest of the day, and I started to think, I really don’t know if I like this. I have to try it first. As soon as I got home that day, I decided to reply to my friend with a more definitive answer. When can I come over and style your looks? We had a date on the calendar. I was officially going to treat this like a styling session—she was the client, I was the professional. Let’s see what this feels like.

Before The Session

Before I headed to the session, I asked my client to write down a rough itinerary of what their trip would look like. This is what I do when I plan to pack. I want a clear list to see that I need 2 outfits this day, only one this day, a travel outfit for that day, and a really nice look for dinner on these nights. That way, you have something to work off of. With 19 days for their trip, there was a lot to create!

I also had them pull out all the things they had bought for this trip, or wanted to try to style and pack. Since it was a warm weather vacation with lots of boat days and al fresco meals, it was probably easy for them to pull out their favorite flowy dresses, best coverups, and all the sandals and straw bags. This way, when I arrived, we saved time on pulling pieces. They had done most of that work already with their favorites, so we could focus on the styling.

The Styling Session

When I arrived, she handed me the itinerary and led me to the rack of their favorite summery pieces so we could get to work. Some shoes were laid out, and all her summer bags were ready for me to pull from. Having a very type-A client does have its perks.

I took a mental note here that this is key. Having them pull out all the things they think they want to style for a getaway was crucial to cutting down wasteful time on sorting through their existing closet. Obviously, if we’re doing a closet clean out, that’s different!

Then I got to work. I started pulling out her pieces and seeing what could be mixed and matched. She had a lot of matching sets already, which are easier to style. However, I wanted her to have OPTIONS. Packing one-and-done pieces makes for a suitcase that isn’t super flexible in my opinion. So while a lot of sets worked as one outfit, I wanted to break as many of them up as possible to create new outfits. This gave her lots of options. Because after two weeks on vacation, with almost a week left, you’re bound to feel sick of your suitcase. So having lots of variations of one piece was key for me to build on.

We slowly made our way through our list of boat days, casual everyday looks, and elevated outfits—our 3 main categories we built outfits for. By the end of mixing and matching pieces, shoes, bags and accessories, we had 25 outfits. A list of what went with what, and photos of EACH. This way, they could easily reference everything while staring at their suitcase in St Tropez, getting ready for the day with confidence.

A few of my favorite outfits we put together were ones she simply could not wrap her head around styling. She had these citrus-printed pants that had some bits of orange in them. I instantly pulled a red top out to pair with it to create the contrast it really needed. She was like “wait that? but there’s no red”. Doesn’t have to be! We also styled some fun yellow pull-on balloon pants a few different ways. She wasn’t sure how to style such a bold silhouette in a bright hue, and we made it feel effortless to wear for day or night.

I enjoyed this!

At the end of the day, I realized, wait, I really enjoyed doing this! Not only did I have fun putting the looks together, but I think we fine-tuned her suitcase and made a cohesive capsule for her. We pared down all the things she could bring to items she would love to wear throughout the trip. And I feel pretty confident that she genuinely really liked the looks we put together.

Before I left, I sent her all the photos and the Notes list of each look broken down by category. I also sent her a quick list of things to purchase to help round out her suitcase. She needed some shapewear and a proper beach bag and I sent her links to some of my favorites that would work with the looks. All of this made for the perfect handoff. She was ready to pack everything up to get ready for her trip.

After The Session

I decided to film our experience and I posted it to Instagram. I got a slew of comments, “yes do it!”, “This is meant for you!” and more. It just solidified that maybe this is something I can try to offer. I’ve been asked to do this for as long as I can remember. From followers, from acquaintances, and everyone in between. Everyone wants a little personal styling done, hell, even I do! It’s always so nice to have fresh eyes on your closet.

I tried something new this past week. I spent two hours styling a friend for their upcoming South of France trip. We created 25 outfit combinations and pared down all the things she wanted to bring so she’d have a cohesive suitcase (okay, two suitcases, it’s a 19-day trip!). I have so many thoughts on this that I’m going to post a full breakdown, including why I initially wanted to say no, later this week.

The holiday weekend was pretty mellow. I got in a few workouts, played many games of Mahjong and primed my bedroom wall for what I don’t know, more on that below. It rained all weekend in NYC, which seems to be the norm for MDW here. I actually have NOTHING planned this week which is a welcome change from last week that was packed every single day with a social outing or event for work. Maybe I’ll finally get caught up on work, get in all my workouts without any excuses, and really do a proper closet cleanout because I am eager for lightness in my wardrobe.

Must Listen Podcast Episode

I’ve been obsessed with Hacks and can’t believe this week is the series finale. One of my favorite characters on the show, is the new assistant, Randi. Her one-liners are so funny and perfectly delivered every single time. Robby Hoffman is a stand-up comedian, and was recently interviewed on Call Her Daddy that I loved. I’m kind of obsessed with her humor. I’m also watching her latest standup, Wake Up, on Netflix and giggling while writing today’s newsletter.

What I Ordered This MDW

I may have gone a bit WILD at H&M this weekend. But also picked up a few other things.

• While not on sale, I did just get these wrap leather sandals in from Margaux. It’s a style I’ve been wanting to add to my closet for a while now, and can’t wait to wear them. Here is also a less expensive version.

What I’m Reading

I finished Famesick by Lena Dunham and really enjoyed this autobiography. I knew really nothing about her going into it and was honestly stunned by her life. Between launching GIRLS at 24 and its success, to her challenging medical journey, her story is fascinating. I still think I find her a bit insufferable and self-absorbed. And that sentiment has only been solidified as I continue to watch more episodes of GIRLS. The rewatch has been fun, and I highly recommend reading her book and going back down the early 2010s lane with GIRLS.

I’m now finally reading the last book in the American Royals series, Reign. Admittedly, the book has been on my coffee table since I moved to NYC 2.5 years ago. I’m a third of the way in and I’m enjoying it, but it’s just not as good as the first one. And for my current audiobook, I’m listening to Yestseryear. Have you read it yet? It seems to be all people are talking about! I’m only on Chapter 3, but excited to see how the story unfolds.

A Home Decor Update

Friends, my Havenly designer has officially been fired, and I’m trying someone new — call is this week! I finally figured out why my bedroom feels off: it’s the bedframe. The black spindle bed is reading more industrial-cottage-core than mid-century, so I’m ready to swap it for an upholstered bed with soft curves, in either a neutral cream like this or rich navy like this or this.

I also stumbled on a TikTok about how to make a bed, and it blew my mind. Just folding your duvet down way more than you think + adding a coverlet makes a huge difference. I tested it with a couch blanket and yeah, that’s exactly what the room needs. And I don’t even have to get rid of the white bedding that I love.

Lastly, I ordered Roman shades for the bedroom and they were so easy to install (no-drill!). I think every window looks 100x better with Roman shades and curtains. Makes such a big impact. And hot tip, if you don’t plan on using the roman shades, and just have them for the look, opt for the shortest option to save money. Over the weekend, I finally tackled my office gallery wall. I added more frames, art, and even a sconce that I had lying around. Still a work in progress, but it’s feeling so much better!

One of my favorite ways to style my hair is with simple beachy waves. Super effortless looking, and can last me a few days too. It’s the easiest tutorial, and one I still swear by after sharing it on my blog nearly 11 years ago.

The great thing about this tutorial is that it truly works on all hair lengths. You can go a little bigger on the curling iron if you want a little looser of a wave and have longer hair. But I usually use a 1-inch curling iron for my shorter hair, some texture spray and you’re good to go.

Warm Weather Essentials

The forecast is finally starting to feel like spring, and we’re even going to hit 92 this week, YIKES. So summer essentials are definitely on my mind.

I’ve made sure my go-to summer undergarments are within reach (these cooling shorts are the lightest option, and these are great for actual coverage with a slight smoothing effect). Also added an SPF powder to my purse for when I find myself out and about in the sun to easily apply and reapply over makeup. A hair clip is now always in my bag and these exfoliating pads are a must when doing my skincare routine if I’ve been sweating at all to ensure I don’t break out.

Help Me With My Bedroom, PLEASE

I have been wanting to do a smidge of a bedroom refresh. Fresh paint, bedding and decor. I don’t really need furniture besides maybe new nightstands, but it’s not an emergency. What I need is a new color palette. I used Havenly and while I loved their service for my living/dining space when I first moved to NYC, the bedroom experience has been wildly different.

Below are my inspiration photos, mostly loving the soft blues, burgundy or some sort of pop of red, and just really want non-white bedding, but not crazy bedding. I’m thinking a simple and modest stripe at most.

A few notes on the above, the mustard bed I don’t love, I really just loved the soft walls and unique rug combination. The favorite inspiration pic here is the one in the middle with the striped couch. I think she’s PERFECTION. Now, the below is what Havenly came back with initially.

Which just feels like they threw everything into the mood board and hoped for the best. I will preface this with the fact that I own the bed, armoire and dresser already. It’s nightsands I still need and then just rug, curtains, paint and bedding.

After some feedback about how I hated the bedding, and felt like we were doing too much at once, and decided to maybe just go with simple white walls and one fun thing in the room instead, this was the next rendering.

I just feel like we’ve totally missed the mark. Not to mention, the 2 large pieces of art next to one another, PLUS, there’s the TV on the opposite wall. This feels like an interior design 101 rule: You don’t put large-scale art on every single wall in one room. Right? If anyone has any recommendations on what to swap out, or move around, I’m all ears. I’m feeling overwhelmed and just feel like this is the one spot in the apartment that doesn’t feel like me and just feels like a hodgepodge since I moved in.

What I Wore Last Week

I had quite a few outings the last week or so which meant I’m finally getting to wear some of my new spring things.

Sure, I’m not buying the $2,000 rug for my home, but I’m also not buying the $50 one that is falling apart. There’s definitely a middle ground on certain things in my life. I do have a budget after all—I’m not made of money!

Silk Pillow Case

I switched to a silk pillow case years ago and never looked back. So much so I bring my silk pillow case down to Atlanta anytime I travel back home. It feels so nice on your skin, is good for your hair and skin and feels (temperature) cool. And yes, you need the silk eyemask too.

Nice Salt Cellars

I think a whole post on salt is actually in order. But I recently upgraded my store brand salt grinders to loose salt in these pretty salt cellars. And it is just a game-changer. I have two salts I use, kosher salt, and Maldon sea salt.

Proper Pepper Mill

I cook a lot, and once again, I was using a store brand pepper grinder. Finally I decided I wanted a real pepper mill. But damn, they aren’t cheap! I ended up getting this cherry Addison Ross bobbin pepper mill. It is so beautiful and I love all of her things!

Maldon Sea Salt

While I wouldn’t say this is really all that expensive, it is pricier and definitely elevated. And worth it. I finally got my hands on the Costco-size bucket because, yes, I use salt that much. It’s the perfect finishing touch to so many meals.

Sugar Bomb Tomatoes

These $5 or $6 baby tomatoes are the only ones to buy. They’re consistently sweet 365 days a year.

Good Olive Oil

Once you have good olive oil, you’ll never go back. When it comes to dressings, I reach for the good olive oil only. Period. I like to try to buy a bottle when I travel to try something new. Otherwise, I tried this brand recently and really love it. And you can skip the Graza brand, it’s not worth it.

Rice Cooker

I can’t believe I’ve been living without a rice cooker my entire life. Finally, I bought one after realizing that my rice never came out the same. I also eat rice almost weekly so this was worth the valuable kitchen space. Shop my rice cooker, I have the 6 cup one→

The Good House Supplies

Between my Chantelle and Wacoal underwire bras, and my Skims Everyday Scoop Bras, these were all worth the money. I think these are worth the price because they last much longer and wear well. Plus, when you feel your best in good bras, you look better.

Clothing Items You Live In

There have been a handful of occasions where I decide I’m buying a $350 dress for every day. And it was the right call every single time. Investing in the everyday pieces, and not the cocktail dress you’ll wear once a year, has proven to be the best strategy.

lululemon Workout Clothes

I have tried many workout brands over the years, but I always come back to my lululemon. They are truly the top-tier workout clothes that last through sweaty workouts, stay up, feel good and make you look good. I swear by these leggings, these biker shorts, and this bra is a new favorite of mine.

Elevated Loungewear

Sometimes we think loungewear should be cheap because we’re just hanging out in it. But I like to think it’s worth investing in quality loungewear that can do double duty. The pieces you can hang out in your home, but also wear on a plane or for errands. For me, those are definitely my Spanx AirEssentials. They feel good, look good, and really hold their shape throughout the day.

Bombas Socks

Good socks genuinely make a difference. They feel good, look good and wash well. I love Bombas from the ankle to calf socks. But yes, these Amazon no show ones are great too, but there is nothing quite like my Bombas socks.

This is one of those things that I said to myself “I wish I bought this sooner”. One spray is all you need, and my bottle has lasted me nearly 4 years. Worth every penny.

$58 Daily SPF Moisturizer

Full transparency here, a lot of the expensive makeup and skincare products I have tried were usually gifted to me. It’s a lovely perk of being an influencer and it definitely has helped me find great products I love. And at the end of the day, there are a few products that, while I did love them, I don’t know if I’d spend my own money on them. And that usually means the VERY expensive daily SPF moisturizers. While the expensive ones worked just fine, I don’t really see a difference from my $16 CeraVe one that I get at the drugstore.

Expensive Makeup

I don’t think this is always worth the money. I just don’t think you need to have a $70 foundation or a $45 blush. While I do have some pricier things in my makeup bag, I am also totally fine and happy with many of my drugstore products or more affordable mid-tier products.

Chanel Nail Polish

My bestie bought me a bottle of Chanel nail polish for my birthday in classic red. It was such a treat and felt so thoughtful. But at the end of the day, I prefer my under $20 polishes almost every single time. The Chanel bottle is also not comfortable to use when painting your own nails since it has one of those removable tops.

The $11 Latte

I think something finally clicked since moving to NYC—the iced latte or matcha for $10+ is just not worth it. I rarely get coffee out anymore unless I’m with someone and I’m instead ordering Americanos as a less expensive option.

Manicures and Pedicures

I’m someone who paints their nails at home, so I can not fathom paying for a manicure or even those expensive fake nails. No thanks. I only do a couple of pedicures every year, but otherwise, I’m doing all of this at home.

Pricey Mascara

I’ve tried a lot of expensive mascaras in my many years of blogging. From YSL to L’Oreal, I honestly can’t tell the difference. Which is why I am almost always team drugstore mascara. I now use tubing mascara exclusively, and this one is a great drugstore option.

Take Out & Delivery

I think it would surprise many people, especially since moving to NYC, that I can count on one hand how many times I’ve done takeout in my nearly 3 years living here. The markup and fees just aren’t worth it when I can walk somewhere or cook at home. The only exception includes Chinese food and pizza, always.

I spent the weekend bed rotting. I don’t usually ever hang out in bed, but I came down with a bit of a cold, so bed rotting was on the agenda. It consisted of binging Your Friends & Neighbors, loved it, and lots of naps. Made myself a big batch of homemade chicken soup and now my freezer is stocked for the future.

I’m feeling much better and excited for a busy week ahead. I’m teaching my first group Mahjong lesson tonight, so excited to kick these off. A few good meals on the agenda, like Hillstone Club (a quarterly meal at Hillstone with my girlfriends where we make our way through the menu), pastrami sandwiches and half sour pickles at 2nd Avenue Deli and a media dinner at a new spot in Williamsburg. Thank goodness this cold was short and sweet because this is gonna be a fun week.

For Happy Plants

I’ve been using a plant food and fertiziler for years now. I’m convinced it’s why my plants are so very happy. Years ago I got a bottle and haven’t looked back. I finally came to the end of it and ordered a new bottle. I use it on every watering for my indoor plants. If you think you don’t have a green thumb, I also suggest getting a water meter. This will keep you from over watering or under watering your plants which is more than likely the culprit to your plant issues. Shop the plant food here and water meter here.

Linen Favorites To Shop

As we head into warmer weather, having 100% linen pieces to reach for is truly a relief when getting dressed. The fabric is breathable and lightweight. And yes, it’s going to wrinkle, that’s the nature of the fabric, embrace it!

• This butter yellow open back maxi is a stunner. Wear CAKES or boob tape if you need a little support

• This midi dress comes in three colors and it’s perfect for summer or warm weather getaways. Pair with a paracord sandal to add a little edge to it.

• I love when a skort has the skirt go all the way around. And this wrap one is spuer cute in red gingham.

• I’m going on 3 or 4 years now of loving vests. This linen one is great to pair with denim shorts, skirts both mini and long, so versatile!

• Why have I not pulled the trigger on these linen track pants?? Loving the red or brown for spring and early fall days.

What To Wear Under Those Spring And Summer Dresses

It’s the season of skirts and dresses, and thigh chafing is not welcome here. I tested out over a dozen different shapewear and these are the winners. I recommend the Thigh Society cooling shorts or the SPANX ones. The latter gives you a bit more coverage and smoothing but are super comfortable. Read my full review here and shop the pieces →

What I’m Reading (And Now Watching)

I started Lena Dunham’s book, Famesick, and I’m hooked! I really don’t know much about her, other than I was a big fan of the show GIRLS and remember binging it years ago. The way the show went from pitch to production really blows my mind—so fast! It had been so long since I had seen the show, that I decided to do a rewatch while reading. Highly recommend this one.

Plan On Making This On Repeat

My friend had me over for dinner last week and she whipped up a great Greek chicken dinner complete wtih tzatkiki. I make chicken shwarma and greek salads almost weekly and I rarely ever make a tzatziki to keep on hand. As someone who always has yogurt, cucumber and lemon on hand, you’d think I’d go the extra step to add some dill to my cart every so often and whip this up. I made a batch over the weekend and it’s been nice to have in the fridge. Here’s a rough recipe of what I did →

• 1.5 cups of Greek yogurt (Fage is truly the only brand to be buying)

• Juice of half a lemon

• Drizzle of good olive oil

• Half an english cucumber, peeled, shredded and drained (use a paper towel and ring out as much water as possible)

• 1-2 garlic cloves, minced (I use a fine grater)

• 2-3 tbsp fresh dill, chopped

• Good pinch of kosher salt

Add everything to a bowl and mix. It’s really important to strain the cucumber to avoid a watery tzatziki. You can go more cucumbery and do the whole cucumber if you like too.

Balloon Pants Done Right

Why Try It? A pull on pant is so easy to style and feels extra comfortable to reach for instead of jeans. Having new bottoms to rotate through makes your closet feel so much more interesting to work with. Once I stopped buying denim like it was my job, and invested in more interesting pants, my closet was much more exciting to work with.

Style Tips To Know: Balloon pants, are well, balloon-y! The volume at the bottom means you want to always balance it with something more fitted on top. As for shoes, always show off the foot in something slim or strappy. Let the pants do the talking, and everything else pulled back and simple.

Here’s a simple outfit formula to easily recreate with the balloon pants. Simple heel either open toed or a pointed toe, to elongate the leg, and a long vest. I love a vest with these as they hug your hips and define your waist without having to worry about tucking anything in.

But if you are pairing a tee with your balloon pants, just tuck it in and add a simple shoe. I love how Mathilde added a scarf around her waist to really show it off and create shape here while adding in another fun trend, the scarf trend.

Here’s how I’d style this for a simple everyday look. Pair it with a fitted tee or tank, a crop option is great too to show a little sliver of skin. Then add a simple strappy flat sandal. Hey Indigoer,

This weekend had everything: a movie that actually delivered, a pedicure paired with a perfect coconut latte, and brunch that got immediately added to my NYC guide.

To kick off the weekend, I saw The Devil Wears Prada 2 and really enjoyed it. Sequels are always tricky, and this one landed pretty well. I loved the progression of their careers and personal lives. While I still think the first one is superior, I really enjoyed it and it exceeded my expectations.

The rest of the weekend was low-key, complete with a pedicure and iced coffee outing, and then brunch in Bedstuy at what was the closest thing I’ve found to Superica in NYC. The $10 Shoe Hack That Saves My Ankles

I always say I have “low ankles”. Whenever I wear a loafer, my ankles hit the top of the shoe and make them simply impossible to wear. I saw this hack of adding a small heel lift to the shoe to raise my ankle up a bit, and voila, it never hits the top of the shoe. I now can buy loafers with confidence, knowing I have these simple heel lifts at home (they’re also adjustable and have layers you can add/take away depending on the shoe). Recent Recipes On Rotation

Over the weekend, I made a batch of my shakshuka. A spicy tomato and pepper dish served with eggs and crusty sourdough. A favorite to have on hand. My little produce and money saving hack is I freeze cherry tomatoes if I know I won’t get to them. Then I pull them out for easy tomato recipes like this. This Music Video Brought Me Joy

While scrolling through Threads the other day, I noticed a music video being shared EVERYWHERE. I had to watch it, and wow, the choreography (and song) were insane by GENER8ION. An artist I had never heard of but is now on my radar. It’s rare to see such incredible choreography these days; it felt like the MTV era, honestly. Emerging from a very lazy weekend. Thanks to the rain, cooler temps, and a very busy week, I kept my weekend super low-key. I mostly sat on the couch while doing some work. Obviously had Scandal on in the background, which is my latest rewatch. I just love having Fitz and Olivia back on my screen. I did manage to get in a couple of workouts at the gym, which is always a win if it’s raining.

Overall, it felt kind of nice to do nothing. This week, I’m attending a Mahjong open play with some friends, and seeing The Devil Wears Prada 2 on Friday. I can’t wait to see the movie, I even did a rewatch of the first one last week because I could not remember for the life of me how it ended! I’m eager to see the fashion and my favorite, Stanley Tucci.

My Day In Greenwich, Connecticut

On Friday, I headed up to Greenwich for a figure skate fitting appointment. I decided to turn it into an adventure day and headed up early to explore the super charming downtown area of Greenwich. But honestly? I got bored very quick. I just don’t think I’m a suburban girl. Raphael’s was hands down my favorite though. I loved that they give you a chouquette with every coffee order. After my fitting appointment, I had to get lunch at bartaco, a favorite of mine and this was the original location in Port Chester which was right down the street from where I was. Then I headed back to Grand Central.

Latest Obsessions In My Feed

Why was I not following this whole time? She’s been all over my feed with her new podcast, so I finally gave her a follow. Her style is a bit more dressy than mine, but I am loving this follow. I also really liked her podcast episodes with Khloe and Not Skinny But Not Fat.

And second, is a follow I’ve been enjoying for unexpected fashion combinations that feel really effortless. Her Substack is a great follow, but also enjoying her Instagram too for some styling tips in the feed.

If there’s one thing I’ll just never stop talking about, it’s a good white tee. I know I know, it sounds so simple. But that’s exactly the point. I think they’re the easiest things to style and are truly the base of so many good outfits. And finding the right one? Well, it can take some trial and error. But that’s what today’s post is for—my ultimate favorite tees I reach for over and over again.

I’ve tried a lot of tees in my lifetime. And I actually have a bit of a leg up on this one. Before I was a full-time influencer, I worked in sales for Alternative Apparel. If you’re not familiar, this was an elevated, cool, laid back brand that had perfectly worn-in basics from tees, sweatshirts, dresses and more. I worked on selling apparel, mostly tees, to screenprinters and brands. Your favorite concert tee or Pure Barre tee? Probably an Alternative Apparel one. We had the highest quality tees on the market. No Hanes or Gildan kinda tees, iykyk.

I learned so much about fabric, fits, washes, blends and so on, and it completely changed how I shopped for clothing. Which usually meant I now always look at composition labels when I’m shopping. Fabric is huge for me. And I’ve been chasing the perfect white tee ever since.

Before we dive into the roundup, I do want to quickly break down a few terms I’ll be using. Ones that you can utilize yourself for when you shop for your next favorite tee. I promise, we’ll keep this part short and sweet.

Fabric Cheat Sheet

Cotton - this is the foundation of most great tees. It’s breathable, soft and a natural fabric that feels great against your skin. It can shrink, wrinkle and also lose shape over time, though when on its own.

There are also different kinds of cotton like pima which has extra long fibers to make it insanely soft and more durable. There’s also Supima cotton, which is the “superior” pima and is actually a trademarked fabric that has to be grown in the US. To me, Supima and pima are the BEST of the best.

Polyester - this is a common fabric used to blend in to help a tee hold its shape. It resists wrinkles and helps items bounce back after washing. It really helps with longevity as well.

Rayon - this is a great fabric that adds a drapiness to tees. It’s silky soft and gives a nice hang.

Tri-blend - this is a mix of cotton, poly and rayon and it’s usually what gives you that ultimate broken-in, vintage soft feel. Many of our best-selling tees at Alternative, were our tri-blend. The perfect vintage style tee.

A few other terms you’ll hear me mention…

Slub - this is that slightly uneven textured look of a tee, sorta more sheer in some spots and denser in others. It’s intentional and gives a t-shirt a more relaxed and casual look. It’s just basically the way the yarn was woven, where there’s more yarn in some spots, versus others, to give that variation.

Sheer vs heavier weight - we can get into the nitty-gritty of GSM (grams per square meter) which determines how heavy or light a tee is. But for today’s post, just know that sheer or lightweight tees are thinner and lighter, and heavier-weight tees have more fabric density and are thicker and not sheer. Finding your perfect weight is personal, and also depends on the outfit and look you’re going for, if you ask me.

While we can dive into garment dyed, yarn dyed, preshrunk and so on, I think the above terms will help give you a foundation when you start shopping for t-shirts. I always read the description, composition and fit of a garment so I can get a better understanding of how it will not only feel, but also look and even wash.

And last but not least, let’s talk about my size. I’m 5’5'“ and wear a 32DD bra (this is the t-shirt bra I’m wearing, and it is my FAVORITE). My measurements are 38 inch bust, 31.5 inch waist and 40 inch hips. I typically am a size 4/6 or 28 and a small/medium on top.

Rag & Bone Slub Tee

Size: Medium

Composition: 100% Pima cotton

Price: $98

This is the priciest t-shirt on today’s list, but it is probably in the top three for me. I personally did not pay for this t-shirt; it was gifted to me by the brand. With this steep price tag, I personally would not have purchased this myself. Is it incredible? Fits amazing? Feels great? Yes to all of the above. But for half the price, you can get the Buck Mason tee, which is just as soft and has a very similar fit. This tee is a slub tee made out of the best Pima cotton. It is ultra soft and super lightweight.

Uniqlo Crew Neck T-Shirt

Composition: 100% Cotton

Price: $19.90

The Uniqlo tee is the most affordable in the list. It has a nice, heavier weight to it and a straight fit. The cotton is soft and looks like a high-quality tee without breaking the bank. It also comes in a ton of colors and a wide size range from xxs to xxl. I’d recommend sizing up if you’re in between, as I find this one to be a bit snug in the arms.

SPANX Cotton Cropped Tee

Price: $48

If you’re looking for something more boxy and cropped, this is a fantastic choice. This is such a great boxy fit with a nice, heavier weight to it. I also like the drop shoulder and longer sleeve length. And yes, you can 100% do the Millennial front tuck with this since it’s not super long in the back.

I am concerned that it may be getting discontinued since it’s on sale with limited stock. Grab a tee now while they’re on sale for $29. And I think this tee is replacing it, it’s nearly identical.

Bella Dahl Baby Crew Tee

Size: Medium

Composition: 50% Rayon, 50% Slub Cotton

Price: $84

What I love about this tee is its lightness. It has a really nice drape to it, thanks to the rayon, and has the slub cotton woven through. It has a beautiful texture to it while still being soft. With a cap sleeve and hi-low hem, it feels more fashionable than the rest of the tees today. I think the price point is quite high for the quality, but it is a great option and comes in a few colors.

Madewell Perfect Crewneck Tee

Well, it really is “perfect” if you ask me, so the name fits. I absolutely love this tee because the cotton is super soft and the fit is truly great. I like the length and fit of the sleeve as it’s not fitted on the body. It’s got a good medium to heavier weight to it making it light enough for summer, but heavy enough to not see a black bra through it. It also come in a ton of colors.

Buck Mason Slub Easy Crew

Composition: 100% Cotton Slub Jersey

Price: $48

This is THE winner in the group. If I had to pick one tee to own the rest of my life, it would be the Buck Mason Slub Easy Crew. It’s made out of 100% cotton jersey in a slub weave. The weight of it is right in between a light to light-medium where you can maybe see your black bra (which I personally love). The neckline is also a bit more relaxed and wider than the others, which I think adds a more elevated look to it. Sometimes a too high and perfect rounded crew feels cheap to me. This one feels just right.

GAP Organic Cotton Vintagesoft T-Shirt

Price: $25 - but often on sale

I didn’t love this t-shirt when I first felt it, but I wanted to try something from GAP and one with a good price point. I think for the price, this is a great fitting tee, and comes in loads of colors. The fit is definitely on the straight side, but I also liked the lightweight fabric of it. At first, I thought it may have had poly in it due to the softness, but it is, in fact, 100% cotton, which makes me think it was treated with a garment wash to give it that soft hand feel. I think this is an affordable option that looks really elevated. It also comes in tall or petite!

I really loved this t-shirt right out of the box. It fits really nicely, and has a light to mid weight to it. You can’t really see a bra through it, but it doesn’t feel stiff at all. The medium for me fit as well, but just shorter and I couldn’t tuck it in fully. It allowed for a Millennial tuck, which was great. I liked the large for the looser fit and ability to fully tuck, personally. Otherwise, you can probably get your usual size or the size above with ease.

Price: $65

A linen blend tee is really great for the summer months. It’s lightweight, breathable and usually has a nice slub look to it. What I really liked about this tee was the longer sleeve, it has such a great fit and length to it. This is the perfect summer tee if you ask me and the price point is pretty good.

I wanted to include my beloved Reformation tee in this roundup, but it is so old that they no longer make it! I ordered the Rowan tee immediately as it’s nearly the same and sure enough, it’s a solid option. A perfect mid-weight cotton tee with a straight fit.

This tee is fantastic. It’s made with supersoft Supima cotton, has a good lightweight feel to it and has a slightly wider crew neckline for a more sophisticated look. This is a great price for a Supima tee that looks, feels and fits really well.

At the end of the day, the perfect white tee can be such a personal thing. Depending on your personal style, how you like to wear it, and more, you may prefer something more fitted and heavier versus relaxed and slub. If you’re looking for that lived in cool tee, choose the Buck Mason Supima tee, or for something more trendy and fitted, the Bella Dahl tee is a great option. And no matter what your budget may be from $20 to $100, there is truly a great tee for everyone in this list.
